How Tight To Tighten Scope Rings

  1. How do I know when the scope rings are tight enough?

    Hullo Guys,
I know, I know I shouldn't put a scope on myself when I take no inkling what I am doing, only I did and now I demand to know how I am supposed to tell how tight the rings should be without compromising the tube of the scope. I mounted a Minox 1.five-8x32mm 1" scope on my 1895 GBL Marlin using a Weaver rail mount and Weaver One thousand Slam medium rings. I have it on at present, but nervous to tighten whatsoever farther. Also, how practice yous know if you over-tightened the rings? Tin can you lot tell merely by looking through the scope. Thanks everyone.

The biggest take a chance of crushing the tube occurs if in that location is a gap in the rings and excessive force is practical. Did you lot make sure that the rings were aligned with each other? That as well can warp the scope tube.

What practice you lot mean a gap? The rings are aligned as it is a rail mount. The band halves don't touch one another, but they don't without the screws. It is a one" tube with i" rings. I tightened it slowly and didn't put any shoulder into information technology. Which I couldn't anyways with the little allen wrench the rings came with. However, the ring halves withal don't impact one some other. Thanks.

You can get an inch/pound torque wrench, i've heard between 15-20 inch pounds, but I usually only go past feel

  6. Re: How practise I know when the telescopic rings are tight enough?

Pregnant yous simply tighten until information technology is hard to tighten? I but tightened the rings until they felt solid and so did about a half a plough on each spiral to make sure it was tight without really getting a shoulder behind it. I think it should be ok. The rings on my Bushnell expect a bit tighter, simply I also think the guy who put that scope on over-tightened it and crushed it a bit. The optics nonetheless expect dandy, so I think it's ok. Lesser line is I don't desire to ruin the scope, simply I don't want information technology moving around either .

Somewhere on your scope band kit,if you bought new,it can have specs on it for torque setttings.A torque screw driver if you tin can get one.I just put the red thread locktite on mine, once I accept the scope on its terminal settings,I snug up tight and then another total turn. You want to just tighten the screws each, and THEN givem some other plough. If you tighten i information technology gives the appearance or "feel" that the one side by side to it is loose.Lots of skillful videos on youtube.

If you become through a box of ammo and still deceit sight in, the rings are probably as well loose

This is from another thread more than or less on the aforementioned subject.

    Re: mounting a scope

Information technology'south not besides difficult. Get the telescopic onto the bottom one-half of the rings. Place the summit pieces on and start placing the screws into the appropiate holes, total of viii screws. Commencement screw 1 down just to the point where information technology starts to appoint the upper ring and then do the opposing i on that band. Do the aforementioned on the other ring. Now practise the other screws the same every bit the first ones. At this point, I take a feeler guess and mensurate the gap on both sides of each ring. Hopefully the same gauge will fit each side, if not I will take upwardly the screws on the side with the bigger gap until they are even. When you exercise this, know that the gap on the other side may increase as torque is applied. Once the gaps are fifty-fifty, then I start to take all screws down evenly past turns, first tightening 1 screw, then tightening the one diagally contrary and then on until all on both rings are quite snug. While I have been tightening, I constantly check the ring gap on each ring to make sure each is even. When I achieve the stop point, I unremarkably torque them down using a in/lb torque wrench.
You have to be careful that yous're non mounting a 30mm scope tube in 1" rings (25.4mm) considering you tin can trounce the tube . You may take to lap the rings. Of class, going the other style, yous may never be able to tighten the rings enough to keep the scope tight. Some other affair yous must consider when mounting the scope is to keep the vertical crosshair inline with the diameter axis. Tools you lot need; MTM rifle vise, proper screwdrvers, allen wrenches or tork, depending on the screw heads, LEVEL LEVEL LEVEL and a in./lb. torque wrench. "

Get yourself a torque commuter. While you lot are at it, get yourself a total telescopic mounting kit.....they are well worth the investment.
